What are the nursing responsibilities on fluids and electrolytes?

nursing consideration and resposibilities on fluids and electrolytes.
EVERYTHING! Ok, well most of it. Obviously nurses can't write perscriptions, but it's the nurse's available job to monitor the patients care as far as fluids and electolytes step. Asssessment, of course is the most major. Patient's need to be constantly assessed for hypo or hyper (fill surrounded by the electrolye). Also, they must be assed constantly for fluid volume excess and fluid volume deficit. It is the nurse's responsibility to make sure that the patient's IV's or oral supplements are monitored properly (i.e. regulating drip rate, administering correct oral dosage). Also, the nurse should constantly be looking at lab values for electrolytes. And be EXTROIDINARILY thorough with Potassium... too much or too little = loss.
